| "Happiness is a very desirable thing to have. But man's overriding purpose must be to be moral, and happiness and morality do not always go together. Some evil people are happy and some conscientious people are unhappy. Morality makes us worthy or deserving of happiness, but the world is such that we do not always get what we deserve. If we make happiness our primary aim, we must on occasion slight morality; and if we make morality our aim, we must be prepared to sacrifice happiness. Morality must have top priority, simply because we ought to do what we ought to do."(249)
